NEW DELHI, MARCH 14. Two persons who were allegedly into manufacture and sale of duplicate bulbs were arrested by the Special Staff of the South-West Delhi police from Naraina village on March 12. A huge haul of such bulbs was recovered from the unit. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-West Delhi, Tejinder Luthra, the Special Staff received a tip-off that a unit for manufacturing of spurious bulbs was being run from Naraina village. Accordingly, a team mounted a raid there and arrested two accused, identified as Rajesh Kumar Singla and Arjun Gupta. The team recovered 10,400 unstamped bulbs, 450 bulbs bearing the brands of Surya and Philips companies, 8,000 wrappers of Philips, 9,600 of Surya, 1,100 wrappers of Bajaj, 18 stamps of Philips, Surya, Bajaj and ECE. A bulb stamping machine, a packing machine and other articles were also recovered from the unit. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that they had been manufacturing bulbs since 1999. Rajesh was arrested at Saraswati Vihar with a huge haul of duplicate bulbs in 2000. Coming out of jail, he came in contact with one Ranjeet and Mohammad Amin Khan, who were suppliers of duplicate bulbs. He started procuring bulb wrappers from them. However in due course, Ranjeet started extorting money from manufacturers of duplicate bulbs, including Rajesh. He then allegedly conspired with other manufacturers to eliminate Ranjeet. In October 2001, he along with Akhilesh, Sonu, Amrik and Bijender allegedly murdered Ranjeet at his Rohini residence. Rajesh and other culprits were arrested in that case and sent to jail in 2003. After being released on bail, he again started the business of duplicate bulbs. He disclosed that he used to purchase the bulbs from one Bhima, a resident of Sudarshan Park, and Rajesh, a resident of Sadar Bazar. He earned 20 per cent profit by selling these bulbs. Another accused, Arjun, disclosed that he was a science graduate from Beer Kunwar University and had come to the Capital in 2001.
