By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, MARCH 14. The Builders' Forum has called for a strike by builders, contractors and consumers on Monday in protest against the increase in cement and steel prices.

C. Shekar Reddy, president, in a statement issued here yesterday, said the price rise was set to derail the construction industry. Mr. Reddy appealed to the Government to address the concerns of the construction industry to ensure the rollback of the prices.

He said a bag of cement was now costing Rs. 160 in Gujarat as against Rs. 95 six months ago and in Andhra Pradesh Rs. 125 to Rs. 135. A tonne of steel was now being sold for Rs. 28,000 in Gujarat and Rs. 25,000 in Andhra Pradesh. The price six months ago was Rs. 19,500 in Gujarat and Rs. 16,500 in Andhra Pradesh respectively.
