PUCL resents EC decision on transfer of policemen

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, MARCH 14. The People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) has questioned the Election Commission's decision waiving its rules on inter-district transfer of police officials in Andhra Pradesh at a time when naxalite challenge was serious in Chattisgarh, Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.

Keshav Rao Jadhav, president, Iqbal Khan, vice-president, and J. Vindhyala, general secretary of the PUCL, in a statement issued here on Saturday, said the commission's decision to hold polls in the State on two days was fraught with danger as it would enable the political parties to shift violent elements from constituencies.
