Advani `yatra' to enter State today

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, MARCH 15. The `Bharat Uday Yatra' of the Deputy Prime Minister, L. K. Advani, will touch 35 Assembly segments and 11 Parliamentary constituencies in eight districts of the State from Tuesday. In all, he will address 33 public meetings.

At a press conference here on Monday, the Union Minister of State for Urban Development, Bandaru Dattatreya, said the response to the `yatra' was overwhelming in the southern States of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

He said the BJP expected a similar response from people in Andhra Pradesh.

A host of senior leaders, including the party's State president, N. Indrasena Reddy, the Union Ministers -- Dattatreya, Ch. Vidyasagar Rao and U.V. Krishnam Raju -- would welcome the `yatra' at Charakapalle near Zaheerabad on the Andhra Pradesh-Karnataka border on Tuesday.

Mr. Advani will tour the State for two and a half days, from Tuesday afternoon to Thursday evening when he will enter Maharashtra.

Mr. Advani will address a meeting at 3 p.m. in Zaheerabad town. From there he will cover Sadashivpet, Sangareddy crossroads, Patancheru, before entering the City via Kukatpally.

His road show will traverse through Ameerpet, RTC crossroads, Dilsukhnagar and Puranapul before the BJP leader retires for night at Lakeview guesthouse.

He will address more meetings on March 17 and terminate his day's programmes at Jagtiyal in Karimnagar district. On March 18, after addressing over half-a-dozen meetings, including one at 4 p.m. in Adilabad, he will leave the State and enter Maharashtra.

Mr. Dattatreya asked the Congress to clarify its stand on vital issues like the demand for a separate Telangana State and naxalism. He said by not spelling out its stand on these issues, the Congress had once again shown that it was "opportunistic.'' Same was the case with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, which had not spelt out its stand on naxalism, he said.

K. Laxman, BJP floor leader in the dissolved Assembly, and the party spokesman, G. Kishan Reddy, were present.
