Haryana bags team championship

NEW DELHI, MARCH 15. Haryana pugilists claimed five gold, one silver and bronze medal each to assert their supremacy in the Junior National boxing championship, which concluded in Meerut on Sunday.

Services finished runner-up, winning three gold, one silver and bronze medal each, and also had the consolation of clinching the `best boxer' title. Lightweight pugilist K. T. T. Singh, who defeated Haryana's Sonu Chahal in a close contest, punched his way to claim the `best boxer' award.

The results:

Light-flyweight: 1. Sanjay Kolte (Ser), 2. Nasir Qureshi (UP), 3. Balbir Singh (Del) and Amandeep Singh (Pun).

Flyweight: 1. S. Sunny Lalwang (Man), 2. Mohammed Airesaamuddin (Ser), 3. Bijender (Har) and Surender Singh (Pun).

Bantamweight: 1. Rishikanta Singh (Ser), 2. P. Narjeet Singh (UP), 3. J. Vincent Paul (Kar) and Manoj (Har).

Featherweight: 1. Vikas (Har), 2. Vikram Vashney (UP), 3. R. Anil Kumar (AP) and Y. Y. Meithai (Ser).

Lightweight: 1. K. T. T. Singh (Ser), 2. Sonu Chahal (Har), 3. Manish (HP) and Arvind (UP).

Light-welterweight: 1. Sudhir (Del), 2. Sandeep Negi (HP), 3. Manoj (Ben) and Jitender (Raj).

Welterweight: 1. Virender (Har), 2. Jagdeep (AP), 3. Gurdev (MP) and Jagat (UP).

Middleweight: 1. Vijay (Har), 2. Kishan (Del), 3. Girish Sharma (Raj) and G. Singh (Pun).

Light-heavyweight: 1. Vinod (Har), 2. Devender (Pun), 3. Bishal (Skm) and Kaptan (AP).

Heavyweight: 1. Gurbaksh (Pun), 2. Mohit (Del), 3. Rajender (MP) and Vinod (Raj).

Super-heavyweight: 1. Narender (Har), 2. Jaswinder (Pun), 3. Laldintharaj (Miz) and M. Chandra (Kar).

Team championship: 1. Haryana (44 pts), 2. Services (29). Best boxer: KTT Singh (Ser); Best loser: P. Narjeet Singh (UP).
