Supplementary chargesheet filed against Rehan Baig

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, MARCH 15. The Stamp Paper Investigation Team (STAMPIT) on Monday filed a supplementary chargesheet against R. Rehan Baig, younger brother of the former Minister, R. Roshan Baig, in the IX Additional City Metropolitan Magistrate Court.

The STAMPIT said in the chargesheet that Metro Corporation run by Dr. Baig in partnership with Abdul Karim Telgi, prime accused in the stamp paper racket, was a front for the fake stamp paper business.

A supplementary chargesheet was submitted against four others, along with Dr. Baig. They are Jaiprakash Ramprasad Singh (47) of Sathpur, Nasik; Sirajuddin (45) of Saundatti taluk, Belgaum; Madhukar Tikaram Kulthey (68), a resident of Nasik, and Uday Ramakrishna Sawant (45) of Bhandup West, Mumbai.

Metro Corporation run by Dr. Baig had its offices in Mumbai and Bangalore. Metro Corporation, which was dealing in white petrol, palmolein and other products, had placed indents for the India Security Press (ISP) seals. Further, there were discrepancies in the financial statements of the Metro Corporation, the STAMPIT mentioned in the chargesheet.

Dr. Baig had supplied mobile phones to the associates of Telgi. He and Telgi had attended the marriage of Sadashiva, another accused in the case, in Hyderabad. A few others accused in the case had said Dr. Baig and Telgi were moving around together, the chargesheet said.

The other charges the STAMPIT had made in the remand application seeking Dr. Baig's custody also find mention in the chargesheet. The STAMPIT had arrested Dr. Baig, a clinical pathologist, in December, 2003.

Meanwhile, the Bangalore Police Commissioner, S. Mariswamy, told The Hindu on Monday that the Bangalore police had not yet taken Telgi into their custody. The Special Court had permitted the Bangalore police to take Telgi into their custody for investigating a case registered at Yeshwanthpur police station.
