TDP, TRS leaders trade charges

By Our Staff Reporter

WARANGAL, MARCH. 15. The district unit of the Telugu Desam Party has accused the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and Congress of colluding with naxals to terrorise people and eliminate TDP leaders in the district.

Addressing a press conference here today, district unit president, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, said the arrest of TRS public representatives with the gelatin sticks exposed their links with the extremists and the conspiracy to kill the TDP leaders. Since the Congress leaders too joined the TRS leaders in agitating for release of the arrested TRS leaders, the TDP suspected the role of Congress leaders as well, he pointed out.

"Many of our leaders in Bhupalpalli, Govindaraopet, Chityal, Tadvai and Eturunagaram were forced to resign and coerced to join either the TRS or the Congress. Those who love democracy should understand the true colours of the naxals, TRS and Congress leaders,'' Mr. Dayakar Rao said.

The TDP leaders from the district would meet Election Commission officials on Tuesday in Hyderabad and would complain against the plans of the TRS and their alleged links with naxals. The leaders would also seek for more security to their ranks in the district.

In the recent past, the TDP present and past public representatives were killed by the extremist groups in Ramannagudem, Gorrevula and other areas. They were also resorting to the blasting or damage of flagposts of the TDP and the BJP in the district in various parts, Mr. Rao said.

Meanwhile, countering the charges levelled against the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), several TRS leaders - Dugyala Srinivasa Rao, J. Jacharaiah and Boinapally Vinod Kumar, accused the ruling party of misusing the official machinery and foisting false cases against their party leaders only to gain political mileage on the eve of elections.

"The TDP leaders are apprehending that their party will loose its base in Telangana and are trying to fix the TRS leaders on some or other pretext,'' they contended.

Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Vinod Kumar said a delegation led by him met the Chief Electoral Officer at Hyderabad and complained against the ruling party over the arrest of Eturunagaram MPP, N. Shankar Rao and the ZPTC member, B. Narasimhulu, on charges of possessing and supplying gelatin stick to the extremists. The officer is understood have assured them of inquiring into the case.

"One of the arrested B Narasimhulu is aspirant of Mulug Assembly seat and he was deliberately fixed by the ruling party,'' Mr. Vinod Kumar alleged. The Congress and TRS leaders staged a dharna at the district collectorate demanding release of the TRS leaders and withdrawal of cases booked against them.
