Clear skies

CHENNAI, MARCH 15 . The skies will be mainly clear on Tuesday. The maximum temperature will be around 34 degree Celsius.

On Monday, Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 33 and 34.3 degree Celsius and a minimum of 22.1 degree Celsius. The humidity recorded was 52 per cent and 48 per cent respectively.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesday in parts of V.O.C Nagar, Purasawalkam, Vepery, Muthialpet and Foreshore Estate for maintenance.

Eye camp

Over 150 people were screened for various eye ailments, including cataract, glaucoma and refractive errors, at a camp organised on Sunday by the Rajan Eye Care Hospital in association with Rotary Club of Madras Silver Beach at Vysarpadi. While 45 of them received free spectacle, the hospital would conduct free surgery on 48 of the patients, a press release said.

Sports day

The college and sports day of the Mohamed Sathak College of Arts and Science was held on Saturday. The Director, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, G. Nanchil Kumaran, the chief guest, said youth had an important role in shaping the future of the country. S.M. Hamid Abdul Quadir, chairman, Mohamed Sathak Trust, presided.

Competition

The Lakshmi Hayagreeva Cultural and Educational Trust organised a story telling competition for 4th and 5th class students on March 10 at the ALM Higher Secondary School at Injambakkam.

College day

The college day of the Srinivasa College of Engineering and Technology was organised on March 11, in which A.M. Raman, the vice-chairman of Science City was the chief guest.

Meet

A seminar on `effective communication' was organised on March 9 at the Jaya College of Arts and Science, which was addressed among others by Anand Kumar Raju, joint director and head, department of English, Institute of Correspondence Education, Madras University. On the same day, computer department of the college organised `compufest-04,' as part of which a special talk show titled `IT virtual or real,' was conducted.

Seminar

An inter-collegiate seminar on ``HR challenges in 21st century'' was organised at the Shree Chandraprabhu Jain College on Wednesday. Students from various colleges participated.

Programme

A vocational and craft skills training programme was conducted at the Government Children's Home, Royapuram, last week. The programme was jointly organised by Relief Foundation and Department of Social Defence.

Free camp

The Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Egmore, and Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya organised a free eye camp at Sunguvar Chatram near Kancheepuram last month. Nearly 1,000 patients were screened and 65 were operated for cataract. Free spectacles were provided to 400 patients.
