MADURAI, MARCH 15 . Women activists of the Joint Council of Workers and Peasants staged a demonstration here today, demanding implementation of the Supreme Court's directives to curb atrocities against women at work spots and public places. Led by Prema, the activists took part in the demonstration The demonstration, staged near the telegraph office at Tallakulam, was also to demand that the Government promote local products, put an end to the destruction of natural resources such as water, land and forest, ban films, television serials and advertisements that denigrated women, reject the culture of violence and provide infrastructure, protect unorganised sector, reactivate the farm labours' welfare board and provide compulsory education to all eligible children and enhance health and hygiene in rural areas and slums. The activists, who participated in the agitation, belonged to the unions of domestic servants, basket makers, conservancy workers, potters, farmhands, rickshaw pullers, hawkers and brick kiln workers.
