KOCHI, MARCH 15 . The national committee for evaluating the "worth of the research work carried out by the institutes of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education and the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR)" is to reach the State this week. The committee headed by the former Vice-Chancellor of G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, J. B. Chowdhary, will hold discussions with the heads of various scientific research institutions in Thiruvananthapuram on March 18. The evaluation is a follow-up of the recommendation of a Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture. The panel will assess the state of the infrastructure available for research, level of satisfaction of the scientists pertaining to its availability and usefulness. The panel has also been asked to suggest measures for the reorientation of the research programmes in the light of the new scientific developments and requirements of Indian agriculture. The members of the committee are K. Pradhan, I.V. Subba Rao and P.K. Singh. The committee will visit some of the important ICAR institutions to discuss the terms of reference and feedback for consideration in different parts of the country. The panel will visit the Central Tuber Crops Research Institute in Thiruvananthapuram at 10 a.m. on 18 March. The ICAR institutions in the State are the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Plantation Crop Research Institutes at Kasaragod and Kayamkulam and the Indian Spices research Institute, Kozhikode.
