CHENNAI, MARCH 16. After being associated with Indian hockey, Sahara India Pariwar has joined hands with FIH, the game's world body as one of its global partner. A FIH press release said that a three-year deal, to be finalised this month-end, would see Sahara India join BDO International, Rabobank and Samsung as a partner and enjoy title rights and branding opportunities at major FIH tournament including the men's and women's World Cup in 2006. The company would also enjoy prominent brand visibility in the major international tournaments including the men's Champion Trophy events in 2005 and 2006. The Managing Worker and Chairman of Sahara India Pariwar, Subrata Roy Sahara said, "This deal will not only help us promote hockey as a game globally but also go a long way in promoting Indian hockey globally. This is a very positive step towards a brighter future of hockey." The FIH President, Els van Breda Vriesman commented, "Sahara India Parivar's involvement as a global partner demonstrates hockey's ability to attract the backing of major multi-national organisations throughout the hockey world. Coupled with the resurgent enthusiasm in Indian hockey, with their qualification at Madrid to the Athens Olympics, the addition of a major Indian corporation to the hockey's global partnership can only strengthen hockey's renaissance in India."
