Karuna's confessions

Sir, — The editorial "Karuna's confessions" (March 15) was a clear, concise and logical analysis of the Sri Lankan problem. Your earlier stand on the LTTE has been vindicated. A separate Eelam is a pipedream. The senseless 21 years of struggle, which has seen so much of bloodshed and violence, has not only deprived Sri Lanka of its development but has also denied thousands of children their childhood. It has now been proved beyond doubt that the LTTE was behind Rajiv Gandhi's assassination.

Sir, — You are right in saying that `Col.' Karuna's statement should reinforce India's resolve not to grant the LTTE any legitimacy. More important is to ensure that LTTE supporters in India are dealt with severely.

N. Krishnaswamy,

Coimbatore

Sir, — `Col.' Karuna has only confirmed what all right-thinking persons believed all along.

The Eelam business would not have become so prominent but for some super self-styled custodians of Tamil and its culture. What they achieved is there for all to see — destruction, civil war on the island, and refugee exodus.

S. Rajagopalan,

Sir, — `Col.' Karuna's confessions have indeed "ripped off the pall of evasion." Henceforth, it should be considered treason if anyone supports the LTTE or holds a brief for anyone supporting the Tigers.

Quilon S. Krishnamoorthy,

Chennai
