By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, MARCH 16. The brief session of the Pondicherry Assembly begins tomorrow and it is likely to be a two-day sitting. The government will seek funds through a vote-on-account for first four months (April to July) of the financial year 2004-2005. The Assembly meets in the backdrop of several important developments, including a new line up of parties formed under the banner of Democratic Progressive Alliance in Tamil Nadu for the Lok Sabha poll. Led by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the alliance has the Congress, the Pattali Makkal Katchi and the two communist parties. The PMK has been earmarked the Pondicherry seat. The Bharatiya Janata Party is contesting the seat with the support of the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
`It won't help members'
The Pondicherry AIADMK secretary and MLA, A. Anbalagan, today said the brief session will not provide an opportunity for members to discuss various issues at length. Mr. Anbalagan said the agenda indicated that the House would seek ratification of the revised estimate of expenditure for 2003-2004. The legislators were not given in advance copies of additional expenditure details. The session should have been convened before the announcement of Lok Sabha elections. He said many issues, including land and property grabbing, were need to be discussed and the short session would not provide the opportunity to air them.
