Yamuna Pushta demolition to begin today

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, MARCH 16. Just a day before demolition of slum clusters begins at Gautampuri-I in Yamuna Pushta, only seven families volunteered to shift to resettlement colony at Holambi Kalan today.

However, by late in the evening as many as 85 families had expressed their willingness to voluntarily shift to Holambi Kalan and deposited the requisite money along with eligibility papers to Slum and Jhuggi Jhonpari Department of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

The slum relocation drive at Yamuna Pushta is being carried out at the direction of the Delhi High Court. The Election Commission has given special permission to the MCD in this regard.

Meanwhile, senior MCD officials said the slum clusters having about 800 families would be demolished on Wednesday. The police have promised adequate force for the demolition exercise. "We would also provide trucks for families who would like to voluntarily shift to the resettlement colony," officials said, adding that each one of them would be given Form 6 (application for inclusion of names in electoral rolls) as directed by the Election Commission.
