This Day That Age
At a solemn function in Darjeeling, Everest hero Sherpa Tensing was on March 16 awarded the "Hubbard Medal", the highest honour of the U.S. National Geographic Society. It has already been awarded to Sir John Hunt (leader) and Sir Edmund Hillary, member of the successful British expedition to Mount Everest. The medal along with a token purse of Rs.500 was presented to him by the U.S. Ambassador, Mr. George V. Allen as a recognition of his achievement in exploration of the mightiest Himalayan peak.
