Nellore
By Our Staff Reporter
NELLORE, MARCH 17. Municipal officials here were taken for a ride by a forged letter. The `letter' from the Director-General, Vigilance and Enforcement Department, to the Municipal Commissioner, Nellore, contained some complaints about a local construction company, which was allotted tenders to DFID works costing about Rs. 75 lakhs in Nellore municipality. Based on this forged letter, instructions were received from the Chief Minister's office, asking the officials to cancel the tenders and the Municipal Commissioner complied with them. However, inquiry by the local Vigilance and Enforcement Department, headed by D.V.V.S. Murthy, Additional SP, revealed that both the letter and the signature of the Director-General were forged. A case has been registered with the Three Town police.
