Film Academy awards function to feature football match

By S.R. Ashok Kumar

CHENNAI, MARCH 17. The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards function — Singapore IIFA Weekend 2004 — is a three-day event to be held in Singapore from May 20 to 22. This will feature the IIFA World film premiere, the foundation sport event, a forum and finally the spectacular Samsung IIFA awards.

For the first time, the foundation sport event will feature a football match to be played between film stars and sport stars from India and Singapore. Last year, at the IIFA awards function held at South Africa, an exhibition cricket match was played between Indian film and cricket stars.

The IIFA forum to be held at the Grand Hyat Hotel is jointly organised by the IIFA and the Media Development Authority of Singapore. This will feature the opinion of a panel of leaders from the Indian and Singapore film industries.

Wiz Sabbas Joseph, director of Wizcraft — the event manager of the IIFA awards — said: "Hosting the IIFA weekend in Singapore will provide an ideal opportunity to reach out to millions of Indians and Singaporeans through a platform that celebrates their biggest passion — cinema.''
