KOTTAYAM, MARCH 17. The Leader of the Opposition, V.S. Achuthanandan, has said that there was a case for looking into the objections raised by the RSP general secretary, T.J. Chandrachoodan, against the candidature of P.V. Abdul Wahab, for Rajaya Sabha. "The objections cannot be rejected outright,'' he said reacting to a question. Speaking to reporters at Kattappana, Mr. Achuthanandan said Mr. Wahab was known as a non-resident Malayali who controlled many business institutions. He was also known to have enjoyed the tax relaxation intended for non-resident Indians. As such, the issues raised by Mr. Chandrachoodan should be looked into, he said. According to him, the issue had to be discussed in the forums of LDF. The LDF probably could not meet because the leaders were all on the move, he said and added that the parties had the right to take their own stance on such issues. The Opposition leader's comments come in the wake of the candidature of Mr. Wahab as an IUML representative to the Rajya Sabha and the objections raised by the RSP leader.
