MCD House could be superseded

By Lalit K. Jha

NEW DELHI, MARCH 17. The Delhi Lieutenant-Governor, Vijai Kapoor, could well supersede the duly elected House of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi if the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) gives an adverse report on the controversial toll-tax issue.

Following serious allegations of gross irregularities in the process of giving contract for collection of toll-tax in the Capital, the CVC has begun investigating the case. The CVC has already sought an explanation from the Municipal Commissioner, Rakesh Mehta, in this regard.

Raj Niwas sources today said they would be left with no other option but to supersede the MCD House if the CVC investigations found the allegations to be correct.
