NEW DELHI, MARCH 17. To protest against the University Grants Commission's (UGC) proposed Model Act for Universities, the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) today staged a dharna at Jantar Mantar and submitted a memorandum to the President and the Union Human Resource and Development Minister demanding withdrawal of the Act. The DUTA has also requested the President to institute an enquiry into what they claim is the arbitrary functioning of Delhi University Vice-Chancellor, Deepak Nayyar, apart from the resolution of the demands relating to lifting of UGC's ban on filling up of teaching posts, third promo tion to college teachers, parity to librarians with teachers. A one-day protest strike has also been called by the DUTA on March 18 to protest against the alleged misbehaviour of police officials with DUTA members on Sunday when they protested against an interview being held at the Food Corporation of India (FCI) building to select the principal of the College of Vocational Studies. A meeting of the extended DUTA Executive would now be held on March 25 to discuss DUTA's future course of action.
