Davenport, Roddick cruise

INDIAN WELLS, MARCH 18. A two-time champion and four-time finalist at Indian Wells, Lindsay Davenport advanced to the Pacific Life Open semifinals with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Gisela Dulko on Wednesday.

Andy Roddick defeated Nicolas Escude 6-3, 6-2 to reach the men's quarterfinals. Roddick overpowered his French opponent with 17 aces to Escude's one, and 33 winners to 15.

Irakli Labadze bounced back from a first-set loss to beat Agustin Calleri 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 to earn a quarterfinal berth.

Bhupathi-Mirnyi pair

Meanwhile, the second seeded pair of Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi defeated Rafael Nadal and Tommy Robredo 7-6 (2), 6-4 to enter the last four in the men's doubles event.

The results: Men: Fourth round: Irakli Labadze bt Agustin Calleri 1-6, 6-3, 6-4; James Blake bt Taylor Dent 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-1; Tim Henman bt Wayne Arthurs 6-1, 6-3; Andy Roddick bt Nicolas Escude 6-3, 6-2.

Women: Quarterfinals: Lindsay Davenport bt Gisela Dulko 6-3, 6-2; Nathalie Dechy bt Fabiola Zuluaga 7-6 (1), 6-3.
