HYDERABAD, MARCH 18. Disproving the general notion that Medak district has been totally free from the naxalite activity, People's War activists have shot dead a police constable and snatched his carbine in Gajwel town of Medak district. The constable, Prakash, working as a gunman for K. Ramachandra Reddy, Telugu Desam Party in-charge of Siddipet Assembly segment, was standing near a house when three persons walked up to him and shot him dead on Thursday. The trio then took the loaded carbine and fled the scene. Mr. Ramachandra Reddy along with this gunman was returning from the district headquarters, Sangareddy, after attending a party meeting. He had stopped at a party functionary's house to have a cup of tea and Prakash was standing outside. The police and politicians alike were of the opinion that Medak had been rid of extremist problem. It was only a month ago that intelligence agencies were stated to have alerted the district police that some action teams of the PW were moving in the district and about the possibility of a targeted killing.
