Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
Pondicherry March 18. The Bharatiya Janata Party national president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, today called upon the electorate in the Union Territory of Pondicherry to vote for the party nominee, Lalitha Kumaramangalam, to Lok Sabha. Launching a joint poll campaign along with the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam here, Mr. Naidu said the nation would be safe and secure at the hands of A.B. Vajpayee and for the all-round development of Pondicherry, a right choice should be made. He said `if you elect Lalitha Kumaramangalam we will select her for a good position in the Central ministry after the poll'. Stating that the alliance with the AIADMK was a good arrangement as the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, respected the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister, the BJP president said it was sorry that the Congress, for the sake of power and position, forgot the former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi. The Congress, which levelled charges against the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the Pattali Makkal Katchi and the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in the past, was now hobnobbing with them just for the sake of power. The alliance formed by the Congress with these parties was ``shameful and opportunistic''. Under the National Democratic Alliance rule, there would be cordial Centre-State relations and development of Pondicherry. He referred to the sanction given for a free port project and for establishment of a Special Economic Zone here. The president of Pondicherry BJP, R. Kesavalu, the AIADMK state secretary and MLA, A. Anbalagan, and Ms. Lalitha Kumaramangalam spoke. A former public prosecutor, Ramalingam, a homeopath, Dharmarajan, Tamil lyricist, Kavimanidasan, and Sridharan of a French lawyer's family here joined the party in the presence of Mr. Naidu. Among those who were present at the meeting included the Union Minister of State for Communications, S. Tirunavukarasarar, the functionaries of the BJP, L. Ganesan, C.P. Radhakrishnan, and H. Raja; and the party MLA, A.M. Krishnamoorthy.
