`Promises not kept'

By Our Special Correspondent

JAIPUR, MARCH 18 . The Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee today issued a charge-sheet against the 100-day-old Bharatiya Janata Party-led Government in the State accusing it of non-fulfilment of promises it made to the public at the time of the State Assembly elections recently. As such, the 100 days set by the Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje, for time-bound action in various sectors is to complete only on March 31. The Congress has counted it from the day the new Government has assumed office.

The charge-sheet, released at the PCC(I) headquarters in Indira Gandhi Bhavan here by State unit president Narain Singh and the Leader of the Opposition, B.D.Kalla, charged the Government with all round failure in its initial days in power. There was widespread resentment in public mind over the lawlessness, lack of direction and neglect of farmers and unemployed youth, it pointed out.

Accusing the Chief Minister of lacking in commitment to her responsibility, Narain Singh charged that Ms. Raje brought back the rule of the feudal lords with her `aristocratic' style of functioning. Of the 100 days in power, Ms. Raje was out of the State for a good 40-45 days, he pointed out. "Hundred days are a brief period for evaluating the work of any Government, yet the first three months have proven disastrous for the State," Mr. Singh charged. "What all the Government could do all these days was to inaugurate the projects initiated during the previous Congress Government's time," he noted.

The charge-sheet lists the Government's `failures' in the areas of law and order, employment, solving the problems of farmers and the rural people, cooperatives, power consumers and Government employees besides in carrying out time-bound development and in checking inflation.

It also charged the Government with frustrating the bureaucracy by handing over the job of transfers to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and indulging in corruption and mismanagement. It reminded the ruling party of the promise it had made to the youth on providing 30,000 jobs in the first 100 days. "Not even 300 jobs have been provided so far," Dr. Kalla pointed out. He also found fault with the Government in introducing the draconian law, National Security Act.

farmers were in dire straits after the Government's failure to ensure remunerative prices to their crops. Neither the promised credit cards for farmers or the crop insurance could become a reality while the promise of waiving loans up to Rs.10,000 too was yet to be fulfilled, Dr. Kalla pointed out.
