One-year jail for I-T clerk

An Upper Division Clerk of Income-Tax Department (Salary Circle, Hyderabad), G. Sridhar, was sentenced to undergo one-year rigorous imprisonment and pay Rs. 1,000 as fine by a special court here as he was found guilty of taking Rs. 1,000 bribe from a complainant, according to a press release from the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Officials of the CBI appealed to people to contact over the phone nos. 24732768, 24732762, 24732763 or 24732764 (Hyderabad) and 0891-2783344 or 2783322 (Visakhapatnam) for making complaints.

Pseudo naxals arrested

Task Force (East) officials on Wednesday arrested two members of a pseudo-naxalite gang -- P. Lingaiah (36) and K. Dasthagiri (26), both natives of Warangal district, -- on the charge of extorting Rs. 5,000 from the supervisor of a lodge at Habsiguda.

Two of their associates -- Sriram Srinivas and Ram Narsimha Reddy -- were still at large, a press release said here on Thursday.

Investigations revealed that the members extorted money by posing themselves as naxalites from several persons in and around Hyderabad.
