CUDDALORE, MARCH 19. The judicial magistrate-I, E.M.K. Siddharthar, today remanded to judicial custody till April 2 five persons, who were held under charges of stealing the rails (railway track). The Inspector of Railway Protection Force, L.J. Alexander, had lodged a complaint with the police that about three km of railway track at Poovanur, about 10 km from Virddhachalam toward Ulundurpet Road, was removed in the last one month. The rails were placed there as part of the gauge conversion programme. A special Crime Investigation Branch team, which was investigating the matter, today took C.P. Johan Samuel (30), R. Muthuvel (18), A. Chandrasekaran alias Chandru (21), M. Abdul Rahim (35), and A. Mohammad Sultan (52), all belonging to Vriddhachalam, into custody. They are also on the look out for five more persons.
