Relocation drive continues

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, MARCH 19. Continuing with its relocation drive, the Slum and Jhuggi Jhonpari Department of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi today demolished all the 292 slums at Koyla Colony in the Yamuna Pushta.

The Additional Commissioner (Slums), Bhuwneshar Singh, said the eligible 92 families were allotted alternative plots at Holambi Kalan in North-West Delhi and the civic body had also provided trucks to transport them.

In the next phase to be launched next week, the MCD will remove more than 3,000 slums from Kanchanpuri-I and II. A survey is already underway to prepare a list of eligible families, which would be allocated alternative plots after the relocation drive.

Meanwhile, the "Yamuna Pushta Jhuggi Jhonpari Bhav Samiti" today urged the Election Commission to stop the relocation drive on the eve of Lok Sabha polls. They alleged that slums were being removed at the direction of certain political parties and leaders.

The Samiti today decided to launch a "jail-bharo" movement from March 22, protesting against the relocation drive.
