Karaikal Youth Congress committee dissolved

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, MARCH 20. The Pondicherry State Youth Congress committee has dissolved the District Youth Congress committee at Karaikal after sacking all its office-bearers with immediate effect.

With the Lok Sabha elections round the corner, the step taken by the committee ``on the advice of the all-India Youth Congress general secretary, V.K. Srikantan,'' has come as a shock to the partymen here.

The party spokesman, J. Santhakumar, in a release, today said the functionaries of the constituency-wise committees at Karaikal were also relieved of their responsibilities. The State Youth Congress committee general secretary, A.V.J. Selvamuthukumaran, would look after the Karaikal district unit for the time being.

The District Committee president, P.R.N. Tirumurugan, recently said he would contest the Lok Sabha elections here. He said the alliance formed by the Congress, the DMK, the PMK and a few other parties was anti-people and against the wishes of the rank and file of the youth wing.
