MADURAI, MARCH 20. A new laparoscopic procedure was adopted to perform a surgery on two persons, who had an injury and a hole in the diaphragm, by a team of doctors at a private hospital here. The two persons were met with road accidents and had a `rupture' in the diaphragm. The tear was closed using the new procedure at the Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre recently. Speaking to reporters here on Friday, Ramesh Adhanari of the Surgical Gastroenterology department, who along with his team performed the surgery, said both the patients "had a repair of diaphragm injury." Claiming that the laparoscopic procedure for diaphragm was a rare thing, he said all along the cases were treated with an open surgery method. However, the new procedure made things easy for the patients, as they had been already discharged after responding positively to the surgery.
