PALANI, MARCH 20. The Collector, P. Senthil Kumar, on Thursday said elaborate arrangements had been made for the convenience of pilgrims visiting the Sri Dhandayuthapaniswamy Temple for the 10-day Panguni uthiram festival, which would commence on March 29. Addressing a consultative meeting with revenue officials and HR&CE officials at Palani for the festival, he said the district administration had sought Rs. 6 crores from the State Government for undertaking drought-relief works this summer. Efforts had been taken to supply drinking water to all parts of the district. The district administration had received additional funds for providing health facilities for pilgrims. Special health camps would be set up in prime locations in the town to extend medical facilities to devotees. Life-saving drugs would be stocked in all medical centres. He directed municipal and HR&CE officials to make all arrangements for adequate drinking water supply.The Municipality should take special care to keep the town clean. Adequate sanitary staff should be deployed for removing garbage. The SP, A. Jawahar Chandrasekaran, said adequate police personnel would be deployed at the hill temple and at prime locationsto provide security to devotees. Security would be beefed up at the hill temple as well as in other temples around the hill. A special control room would be set up to intensify surveillance. About 1,000 police personnel would be mobilised to Palani town for maintenance of law and order. Police would regulate devotees at the Padha Vinayagar temple and at winch stations.The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation would operate special buses to Palani from different parts of the district and from neighbouring districtssuch as Theni, Madurai and Tiruchi, Karur and Coimbatore. The Panguni uthiram car festival would be celebrated on April 4 and cracker festival on April 5.
