NEW DELHI, MARCH 20. The Amateur Athletic Federation of India (AAFI) has named 64 athletes, including 26 women, for the SAF Games to be held in Islamabad from March 29. The selections were based on the performance of the athletes in the just-concluded Federation Cup meet here. The AAFI, as per its plans, has chosen a majority of the junior athletes and kept the bulk of the Olympics probables back in the camp at NIS, Patiala. The men's 4x100m team, though in contention for an Olympics slot, has been included since it has to aim for some good timings in order to get into the top-16 bracket in the world that will help it make the Athens squad. Likewise, javelin thrower Jagdish Bishnoi has also been selected since he was hopeful of aiming for the Olympic qualification mark of 77.80m in Islamabad. He recorded 76.28 in the Federation Cup here. Discus thrower Hridayanand Singh and woman 800m runner Madhuri Singh are the other seniors included in the team.
