Kamala Kannan makes final

KOLKATA, MARCH 20. Top seed Kamala Kannan, despite not playing at his best, managed to move into the final of the men's singles of the Central Excise Open tennis championship here on Saturday. Kannan would take on third seed V.M. Ranjeeth, a straight set winner over Manoj Mahadevan.

After winning the first set at 6-3 with a sole break against Ashutosh Singh, the top seed lost the second at 3-6 after he was broken in the seventh game. The decider saw Kannan's big serves and powerful returns working well to gain the set at 7-6 (7/5). Ranjeeth took exactly 63 minutes to demolish Mahadevan at 6-2, 6-1.

Men's doubles qualifiers Akash Sharma and Gursharan Singh put up a stiff fight in the men's doubles final against second-seeded pair of Manoj Mahadevan and Ashutosh Singh and yet lost the title at 6-7 (4/7), 6-7 (4/7).
