NEW DELHI, MARCH 21. Debesh Mukhopadhyay and Aniruddha Pal of Kolkata have been awarded the first prize in the Black and White and Colour sections, respectively, of the 16th National Photo Contest organised by the Photo Division of the Union Information & Broadcasting Ministry. The second prize goes to C.M. Jakhmola of Delhi and Pulkit Rawat of Indore, while the third prize has gone to Gurdas Dua of Indore and Gopal Bhattacharjee of Kolkata. The first prize carries a cash award of Rs. 20,000, a memento and a citation. The second and third prizes comprise Rs.15,000 and Rs.10,000, respectively, with a memento and a citation. Ten consolation prizes in each category have gone to Menino Francisco Ferrao, Gurdas Dua, Nitin Khatri, Jayanta Roy, Soni Kailcan, Anil Risal Singh, Kailash Mittal (2 consolation prizes), Anand Murgod, Anindya Majumdar, Shantanu Das, N.P.Jayan, Shine J.Oommen, Deba Prasad Roy, Soni Kailash, O.P. Soni, Asish Bal, Kushal Gangopadhyay, Parveen Rawat and Kallol Majumdar. The Photo Division organises the contest every year by inviting photographers from across the country to send a maximum of four photographs. The aim is to encourage the photographers so that the talents available in the filed could be projected and given their due recognition. A total of 948 entries were received for the competition this year from 358 entrants in different parts of the country. A national jury comprising eminent photographers -- Benu Sen, S.Paul and Debatosh Sengupta, with Bahadur Singh, Director of the Photo Division -- went through all the entries and selected a total of 116 photographs for the exhibition of award-winning photographs. The I&B Secretary, Pawan Chopra, will give away the awards to the winners and inaugurate the exhibition of selected photographs at Azad Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday, March 22. The exhibition will remain open till March 27.
