NEW DELHI, MARCH 20. A 30-year-old man allegedly shot dead his 26-year-old wife and then killed himself following an argument in his house at Prashant Vihar in North-West Delhi on Friday night. According to the police, the bizarre incident came to light when the neighbours heard the incessant cries of five-year-old Gaurav, son of Shiv Ram Yadav, a resident of Vijeta Vihar at Prashant Vihar, around 11-30 a.m. today. With some difficulty, they guided Gaurav to open the door and went inside the house only to find the bodies of Shiv and his wife, Sweety, on the floor. A scrutiny of the spot revealed that four bullets had been fired. While one hit the window, another pierced the ceiling. Sweety sustained a gunshot injury in her stomach. Shiv had shot himself in the temple. Two country-made revolvers, one of which was found in the hand of Shiv, were recovered from the house. The police have so far ruled out any foul play. Preliminary investigations revealed that Shiv, had gone to the house of his father-in-law along with his wife on Friday evening. After returning, Shiv consumed alcohol and the couple apparently had an argument following which Shiv began firing from his country-made revolver and in the process shot his wife. At that time, Gaurav was reportedly deep in sleep. The neighbours also apparently did not hear the gunshots. It also came to light that while Shiv did not have any fixed source of income, he used to invest in shares. The police have ruled out financial crisis as the possible reason for the incident. Earlier, Shiv, whose brother is a constable posted in a South Delhi police station, had completed a course in astrology from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. He was married to Sweety about six years ago and used to live in Lodhi Colony along with his brother. The couple shifted to their present residence only five days back. The police are trying to ascertain if the Maruti 800 car, which was found in the compound, was registered in his name. Since the deceased were married for less than seven years, the area sub-divisional magistrate is conducting an inquest into Sweety's death. A case has been registered at Prashant Vihar police station.
