Woman hurt in robbery bid

VIJAYAWADA, MARCH 20. A housewife sustained head injuries when an unidentified youth attacked her with a cricket stump in a bid to rob her in Patamata New Postal Colony on Saturday. Koneru Kanakadurga was at home when a youth entered the house and forced her to handover the cupboard keys threatening her with a cricket stump. The youth hit her on the head when she resisted. In the ensuing struggle between the two the woman managed to inflict a wound on the youth with a broken bottle, after which he fled. The woman was reportedly shifted to a hospital where she was operated.

Suicide attempt

A 25-year-old youth who reportedly attempted suicide by jumping from a flyover suffered severe injuries and is said to be in a critical condition. P. Narasimha Rao, of Patel Nagar jumped from the Singhnagar rail over bridge on Saturday afternoon. Falling on the railway track below he hurt his back and also broke one of his legs. Rao told the police that he resorted to the extreme step, as he was unable to get a proper job or a loan to start a business.
