Traders' strike on Tuesday

KOCHI, MARCH 20. Traders will down shutters on March 23 to protest against the budget orders which they said were against traders in the State. This was decided at an emergency meeting held here on Saturday by the Joint Action Council of Chambers of Commerce and Trade Organisations of Kerala. A rally will be held to mark the protest at 10 a.m. from the High Court junction to Kanayannur Taluk office, where a meeting will be held.

Theft in jewellery shop

Gold ornaments weighing 382 sovereigns and Rs. 2.42 lakhs in cash was found stolen from Rose Jewellery, Kurumassery Road, Chengamanad, today. The theft is said to have taken place between Friday midnight and this morning. The Chengamanad Police said the owner found the shutter damaged and informed the police.

Monsignor dead

Monsignor Immanuel Lopez, Protonotary Apostolic of the Archbishop of Verapoly, died here today. He was 95. Monsignor Lopez had been under treatment at the Lourdes Hospital for the past two weeks. The body was kept at the St.Francis Assisi Cathedral and the Infant Jesus Church at the High Court junction for the public to pay homage. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. tomorrow at the Mount Carmel Church, Chathiath.

Road repairs

Repair work on the the Vyttila-Palarivattom road will commence from March 25. Vehicular traffic on the road will be diverted through the NH Bypass road between Vyttila and Palarivattom during the period up to April 15.
