NEW DEHLI, MARCH 20. Taking a serious note of the recent brutal murder of the 59-year-old Australian woman, the National Commission for Women has sent a letter to the Delhi Lieutenant-Governor stating that the murder raises questions about the safety of women in Delhi. While condemning the incident, it also expressed the urgent need to formulate a code of conduct for taxi drivers and operators. It also stressed the need for the Delhi Government to develop a strategy and formulate policies for safety and security of women using public transport. "A code of conduct for taxi drivers must be formulated and the law enforcement organisations should ensure that it is properly implemented. There is an urgent need to overhaul the public transport system and ensure the safety of women in the Capital. We will wait for an action taken report,'' said Romi Sharma of the NCW.
