Three women robbed of gold chains

BANGALORE, MARCH 20. Three women were robbed of gold chains, all worth Rs. 93,000, in separate incidents in the city in the past 24 hours.

Two motorcycle-borne men robbed a woman of her gold chain worth Rs. 30,000 in Kengeri police station limits on Friday. The police said the miscreants waylaid Vijayalakshmi (42) of Kengeri Satellite Town around 6.30 p.m. and tried to gag her. Later, they snatched her gold chain and sped away. They also tried to relieve her of her gold ear studs, the police said. The Kengeri police have registered a case.

In another incident reported from Byatarayanapura police station limits on Saturday, a youth relieved a woman of her gold chain when she was drying clothes on the terrace of her house on Nehru Road in BEML Layout.

The police said when Indira Purushottam (52) was on the terrace around 6 a.m., a youth came from behind and snatched her chain worth Rs. 35,000. He had reached the terrace from the roof of the neighbouring house, the police said.

A man snatched a gold chain worth Rs. 28,000 from a woman who was walking on Brigade Road around 9 p.m. on Friday. The incident took place when Vijaya of J.P. Nagar was on her way to Mahatma Gandhi Road. As the robber snatched the chain, Vijaya lost balance and fell down, the police said. The Ashoknagar police have registered a case.

Doctor assaulted

Two persons assaulted a doctor and took away his motorcycle in Subramanyapura police station limits on Friday night.

The police said the robbers waylaid Manjunath at P.P. Layout around 8.30 p.m. while he was going to Rajarajeshwarinagar from Jayanagar. They assaulted Dr. Manjunath and escaped on his motorcycle. The Subramanyapura police have registered a case.

Man murdered

Giriswamy (25) was stabbed to death at Andhrahalli village in Tavarekere police station limits in Bangalore Rural district on Friday night. Giriswamy was a resident of Chalamagere village, the police said. The motive behind the murder is not known. The Tavarekere police have registered a case.

LPG cylinders seized

The City Crime Branch (CCB) officials on Thursday arrested Raju (19) of Banaswadi and Rafiq (30) of Kadugondanahalli on charges of illegally filling gas from domestic cylinders into commercial ones and selling them to autorickshaw drivers.

The police seized 14 LPG cylinders worth Rs. 18,000 and gas filling equipment during the raids.

Body found

An old woman was found dead in an agriculture field at Baichakuppe in Tavarekere police station limits on Saturday. The police said the victim, Hanumakka (68), was stabbed by some miscreants when she had gone to her farm. The motive behind the incident is being investigated.
