THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 21. The Thiruvananthapuram District Congress Committee (DCC) president, N Peethambara Kurup, today strongly defended the veteran Congress leader, K. Karunakaran, his son, K. Muraleedharan, and his daughter, Padmaja Venugopal, all of whom are now under fire of the "I" group rebels. In a statement here today, Mr. Kurup strongly protested against the action of a few persons to tarnish the image of these leaders. Terming the action of the KPCC general secretaries, Rajmohan Unnithan and Saratchandra Prasad, as a ``street play'' of sorts, the DCC president said that their threats would not work. He alleged that the two general secretaries had become the mouthpiece of those who wanted to destroy the political future of Mr. Muraleedharan. Mr. Kurup said that Mr. Muraleedharan had mobilised funds, and the outcome was a multi-storeyed headquarters for the KPCC. Similarly, Mr. Muraleedharan had taken steps to revive the party organ, Veekshanam.
