Transport Minister aims at fifth victory

KARIMNAGAR, MARCH 21. The Minister for Transport, M Damodar Reddy, the two former Ministers, E Peddi Reddy and Suddala Devaiah secured Telugu Desam Party tickets to contest from Kamalapur, Huzurabad and Nerella (SC reserved) constituencies respectively in the first list of candidates released on Sunday.

Mr Damodar Reddy, entered the electoral fray in the year 1985 by contesting from the Kamalapur Assembly constituency on TDP ticket. He won four times in a row from Kamalapur in 1985, 1989, 1994 and 1999 elections and is aiming to register a record fifth victory in the 2004 elections.

The former Ministers, E Peddi Reddy and Suddala Devaiah, won twice from the Huzurabad and Nerella Assembly constituencies in the year 1994 and 1999 elections respectively and are gearing up for a hatrick.

All the three senior leaders and sitting legislators of the party have secured tickets in the first list.

While, two other sitting legislators, K Devender Rao (Karimnagar), and Mathangi Narsaiah (Medaram SC reserved), have not secured party tickets in the first list. Party sources said that the candidates for the two sitting segments and the remaining segments of the district would be announced by this month end.
