BANGALORE, MARCH 21. The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has been authorised to fill government quota seats in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) course in the State. It could fill also management quota seats in unaided private colleges with the permission of the institutions. The university will conduct a common entrance test (CET) to fill MBA seats. Sources in the Education Department say that many colleges have agreed to allow the VTU to conduct the test for admissions to their management quota seats. The Government had given an option to the managements of private colleges running the MBA course to conduct a parallel CET to fill their quota of seats, as per a Supreme Court directive, or opt for the test to be conducted by the VTU. But like engineering, medical, and dental colleges, a parallel CET can be conducted only by a common forum of colleges, according to a recent order. The colleges were given 10 days to respond to the order. The VTU authorities have reportedly sought certain clarifications on the Government Order on the CET regarding the regulations, modification of rules, and seat sharing between the Government and managements. Over 100 colleges offer the MBA course in the State. As per a government notification, the MBA course will come under the purview of the two committees constituted to monitor the admission process and fee structure in professional colleges. The five-member S. Venkataraman Admission Committee will supervise the CET to be conducted by private managements for the MBA course to ensure that it is conducted in a fair and transparent manner. The Fee Committee headed by retired the High Court Judge, A.B. Murgod, will decide on the fee structure in private colleges.
