PATNA, MARCH 21. The official residence of Chief Minister Rabri Devi is in danger of plunging into darkness with Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) serving notice for clearing the dues of about Rs 1.25 crores at the earliest failing which electricity supply would be snapped. The BSEB Member (Finance), Afzal Amanullah, sent a letter to the Cabinet Coordination Committee on March 17 asking for clearing the outstanding power bill of the Chief Minister's official residence at 1 Anne Marg and her residential office by March 31 failing which the power connection would be snapped, Board sources said today. The electricity dues cover a period of roughly five years. Though regular bills of the CM's residence and her residential office were served, the payment was not made resulting in piling up of the huge amount, they said. The BSEB move is aimed at augmenting its resources, the sources said. As per the latest statistics with BSEB, the State Government owes it a whooping Rs 1,612 crores on this account. Of this, the Department of Urban Development alone has to pay Rs 800 crores. Among the other major defaulters are department of water resources (Rs 273 crores), minor irrigation department (Rs 213 crores) and health department (Rs 81 crores), the sources said. The BSEB has served notices to all these departments in addition to Beur jail authorities for clearing their outstanding at the earliest, the sources added.
