By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, MARCH 21. Southern Railway, reacting to the article `Children working for railway construction project' (published on March 19), said in a release:

"The four women unskilled labourers figuring in the photograph are Rama Devi (19), Dhanalakshmi (20), Govindamma (19) and Malleswari (23). All the four are working on a regular basis at the L&T worksite at Sholinganallur. They occasionally meet their relatives at Tiruvanmiyur and engage themselves in work for two to three days in a month, whenever they are free at the other site. It is confirmed by the contractor and railway field staff that no child labour has been engaged at the above sites."
