KABUL, MARCH 21. Soldiers killed Afghanistan's Aviation Minister, Mirwais Sadiq, in the western city of Herat this afternoon, and hours of heavy factional fighting that followed claimed the lives of between 50 and 100 people, a top commander said. The Afghan Cabinet convened an emergency session following Mirwais Sadiq's killing, and ordered extra troops sent from the capital to try to calm the city. Sadiq is the third leading figure of the Hamid Karzai Government and the second Aviation Minister to be assassinated. Sadiq, son of Herat's powerful Governor, Ismail Khan, was shot in his car, the Presidential spokesman, Khaleeq Ahmed, said.
