The Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 37.1 degree Celsius and a minimum of 25.1 degree Celsius on Sunday. Humidity dropped from 74 per cent in the morning to 43 per cent in the evening.

Power shutdown

The areas of Mutyalampadu, Singh Nagar, R.L Pet, Ayodhya Nagar, Santhi Nagar, G.S.Raju road, A.S. Raju road, Janda chettu street, Lakshmi Nagar, Government Press road and the drainage pump house under Mutyalampadu section, will not have power supply from 8 am to 11 noon, on Monday to facilitate pre-monsoon inspection.

Award for danseuse

Demos Gora has been selected for `Nrutya Bharathi,' an award instituted by a Chirala-based SET organisation. In a statement here on Sunday, G Sakala of the Athiest Centre said the award was conferred for her brilliant performance of Kuchipudi. She used the dance form to enlighten the public on social evils like the jogini system and child marriage. Gora will be presented the award at a function to be held at Chirala on June 6.

Appointed

Ch. Hanumantha Rao, an employee of the local branch of the Corporation Bank, has been appointed Workman Employee Director on the Board of Directors of Corporation Bank, for a period of three years, with effect from March 13 this year. This is the first time that an employee from Vijayawada has got a representation on the Board of Directors of a national bank.

BSNL meet

The Telecom Department plans to hold a customers' meet at all its divisional headquarters on Monday. In a statement on Sunday, the department officials appealed to the subscribers to ensure their presence at the meet and air their views and problems on the functioning of the BSNL. The meet would be organised simultaneously at Vijayawada, Machilipatnam, Gudivada, Nuzvid, Vuyyur, Challapalli, Kaikalur, Nandigama, Tiruvur and Gannavaram.
