Vizag port sets national record

VISAKHAPATNAM,
MARCH 22.
The Visakhapatnam Port Trust's good run over the past four years has culminated in the port establishing a new record for the highest cargo throughput for any major port in the country.
According to the official VPT spokesman, Vizag port's throughput peaked at 46.305 million tonnes at 6 a.m. on Monday during the current fiscal which is the highest tonnage in a year in the Indian port sector.
The VPT's performance surpasses the earlier national record of 46.303 million tonnes held by the Kandla Port Trust since 1999-2000. Concurrently, he said, the VPT registered another record of overtaking its own previous best traffic of 46 million tonnes in 2002-03 at 6 am on Sunday, significantly 11 days ahead of the completion of the current financial year.
