College signs MoU for technology transfer

By Our Staff Reporter

RAJAMPET, MARCH 22. The Annamacharya Institute of Technology and Sciences' Mechanical Engineering Department signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) for technology transfer with some industries of Cuddapah and Tirupati, at a national-level technical students' symposium `Mecha Drive 2004' on the AITS campus at Rajampet on Monday.

The professor of Mechanical Engineering, V. Venugopal Reddy, signed the MoU with the Director of P.R. Rolling Mills Ltd., Renigunta, Arvind Sood, Managing Director of Varma Industries, Bhoopal Varma, Chief Executive Officer of Rithwik Power Energy Systems Ltd., R.S. Srinivas, all of Tirupati and the Director of Veeranjaneya Industries Pvt. Ltd., Cuddapah, Chandramohan Reddy. Mr. Venugopal Reddy said the MoU for technology transfer would enable a long-term understanding to help students hone up their technological skills and attain practical knowledge.

Delivering the keynote address, the professor of Manufacturing Engineering in the IIT, Chennai, O.V. Krishnaiah Chetty, said cultural, environmental and sentimental blocks beset the manufacturing sector and hence the role of creativity was vital to overcome the mental blocks. Neglect of specifications and oversight or inexperience of planners were major mental blocks in the field of manufacturing, he said. He urged the engineering students and entrepreneurs to imbue lateral thinking and explore avenues to ensure quality in manufactured goods.

Mr. Arvind Sood said ensuring quality of manufactured goods was imperative and necessary technological know-how could be procured. World-class products were presently available due to opening up of the international market, he asserted. Mr. Bhoopal Varma announced to sponsor a cash prize of Rs. 3,116 to the mechanical engineering topper of AITS.

The professor of Sri Venkateswara University College of Engineering, Tirupati, C. Easwar Reddy, said the industries that signed MoU with AITS would be fruitful if they employed at least five engineering graduates from the institution. Stating that nearly two lakh students passed out of 900 engineering colleges in southern India, he advised the mechanical engineering students not to endlessly wait for Government jobs, which were scarce.

The engineering graduates must understand dignity of labour and take up self-employment, he observed.

The associate professor of National Institute of Technology, Warangal, C.S.P. Rao, Annamacharya Institute of Technology and Sciences Chief Patron, C. Ramachandra Reddy, Patron, C. Gangi Reddy, principal, G. Prabhakar Rao and assistant professors of mechanical engineering, C.N.V. Sridhar and K.L. Narasimham, faculty members and students participated.
