SHIMLA, MARCH.22. The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has alleged that the Virbhadra Singh-led Congress Government is not only fooling the people but also misinforming its Central leadership. Reacting to the statements of some Congress leaders who have been maintaining that the State Government was doing an excellent job, the BJP today refuted all such claims and exposed the party on the promises it had made in its manifesto. The BJP spokesman, Randhir Sharma, addressing a press conference said that the Congress Government had failed on all fronts and was not able to fulfil even a single promise it had made to the electorate in the past one year. "Except practising political vendetta and framing charges against its political opponents, the Congress Government's performance is dismal and disappointing'' Mr. Sharma said. For the first time any Government in the State has "interfered and fiddled'' with constitutional institutions including the State Public Service Commission, he alleged. The Congress, he said, had nearly 100 promises in its 16- page manifesto. They had promised 15 lakh jobs to the people of the State in five years, which comes to around 3 lakh employments in a year. The Government, he alleged, had not given even 300 jobs during its one year in office. No teachers working in the State from past five to six years had been regularised. Instead about 3000 daily wagers had been thrown out of jobs, he alleged. The economic and administrative rights of the Panchayati Raj Institutions had been snatched and some of the elected representatives had been thrown out of the selection boards, he further alleged. The direct financial aid given to the Zila Parishads and Panchayat Samitis had been stopped and it was now routed through MLAs. At least 1500 vacant posts of lecturers and TGTs were laying vacant in the Education Department and 150 doctors, 90 nurses, 370 pharmacists and 200 technicians' posts were lying vacant in the Health Department, he said. Because of this poor performance of the State Government, no leader of a stature from the Congress was coming forward to fight the BJP in the coming elections, he felt. The Congress had forced some of its Ministers to face the BJP in the elections, making the whole process a mere formality, claimed the BJP spokesman. He further said that the party would win all the four seats from the State. Meanwhile, the North India in charge of the Congress media cells, Prabha Thakur, said that four media centres- Shimla, Kangra, Mandi and Hamirpur- were being set up to co-ordinate the coming Lok Sabha elections. Kuldip Rathore, Congress general secretary and spokesman, would be the in charge coordinator of these centres, she said. Meanwhile, the Pradesh Congress Committee passed a resolution today welcoming the decision of the AICC to field Rahul Gandhi as a candidate for the Lok Sabha elections. It has also demanded a seat for Priyanka Gandhi so that the youth of the country was properly represented and heard in Parliament.
