VISAKHAPATNAM, MARCH. 22. The Centre for Hydrology and Groundwater Resource Management was inaugurated in the Department of Geophysics, Andhra University here, by the Vice-Chancellor, Y.C. Simhadri, on Monday, to mark the World Water Day. The centre was sanctioned by the UGC under its 10th plan programme and would work on the hydrology and groundwater management in the five districts under Andhra University's jurisdiction. The Director of Cyclone Warning Centre, J.V.M. Naidu, speaking on the occasion said that the project of inter-linking of rivers would help in containing drought, floods and a huge quantity of river water going waste into the sea. While this project would require a huge amount of money, short-term measures like cloud-seeding could be taken up since experiments in the past had proved highly successful, Dr. Naidu said.
