NELLORE, MARCH 22. The railway police here have arrested three persons in connection with theft in trains over the last two months. Ornaments worth Rs. 3.05 lakhs were recovered. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, the Railway S.P. Guntakal, K. Venugopala Rao, said the modus operandi of the culprits was to hang around women passengers occupying seats next to the window, snatch their ornaments just as the train began to move and escape before it picked up speed. Three such robberies had occurred in Renigunta, Gudur and Chirala and three persons - Sk. Fayaz, Raghavan Sadasivam and R. Raju alias Rajest - were arrested in connection with them. In addition, the railway police also took into custody one Mahendra Purohit at Renigunta, and recovered from him 38 kg of silver worth Rs. 4 lakhs, concealed in suitcases and bags.
